Out of the ordinary

Tanya Crane - Wednesday, February 13, 2019

On Friday, some of the drivers were lucky enough to experience something out of the ordinary…...loading and carting deer!

As deer can be frightened easily and can jump over 6ft, a tarp was used to cover the back of the B trailer to prevent the deer from jumping out. So with a team of 5, the tarp was put over top and the loading of the deer began.

The first pen went on quite easily; with the team members given certain jobs to ensure the deer didn’t get too frightened or run back out of the truck as they move VERY quickly! A few of the boys were designated to lock the gates/doors when groups of the deer would run onto the truck. Another 2 of the team members were in charge of counting the deer, and the final member following the deer up onto the truck, armouring himself with a shield for protection.

The team managed to fit 27 deer in a sheep pen, with a total of nearly 250 deer fitting onto two and a half decks. All deer loaded easier than expected for the boys and they say it was definitely an interesting morning!
